Hand-held refractometer

• The coolant refractometer is indispensable in every workshop.
• It allows the physical properties of liquids to be determined by measuring the refractive index at the interface of the media.
• This makes it possible to determine, for example: battery level, freezing point of propylene glycol-based liquids or
  ethyl alcohol, or the freezing point of a windshield washer fluid.

Calibration of the refractometer before use:

• Open the prism cover. Using the pipette provided, add 3-4 drops of water.
• Close the lid and press it down to spread the liquid evenly over the prism without air bubbles.
• Aim the refractometer at the light - bulb / sun / window
• Using a screwdriver, adjust the calibration screw so that the boundary line between the white and blue fields (i.e. the light and shadow line) aligns with the WATER LINE marked on the scale on the lens

Measurement Instructions:

• Open the plastic cover to access the prism.
• Using a pipette, drip a few drops of solution onto the surface of the prism.
• Close the cover to spread the liquid evenly.
• Wait about 30 seconds for the temperature of the sample to equilibrate with the temperature of the instrument.
• Aim the refractometer at the light source and look into the viewfinder.
• Read the value on the appropriate scale at the border of the white and blue areas (light/shadow border).
